The Skinny On Coconut Water

The question is whether coconut water is simply a fad or if it's actually good for you?

Well, for thousands of years coconut water has been revered as a natural source of nutrition and hydration and it can actually be more hydrating than water alone.  When you participate in physical activity, both water and nutrients are drained from your body.  Coconut water contains a number of vital electrolytes that assist in replenishing your body and it allows you to perform at your best.

Coconut water contains high amounts of potassium as well.  Depending on the brand you choose to drink, the potassium levels can surpass those in a banana!  This will help prevent cramping during and after physical activity.

Sure various sports drinks contain electrolytes for rehydration.  But they are PACKED with sugar! Sticking with the all natural coconut water brands that refrain from adding extra sugar is key.  These preservative-free drinks are naturally sweet without any artificial sweeteners, additives, or corn syrup that every basic sports drink contains.  What else does this mean? FEWER CALORIES!!!

So after your next run or bikram yoga sesh...drink some coconut water because it IS actually good for you :)
